On October 1st, the legal representatives of Odila Castillo Bonilla released an official rebuttal to the allegations circulated by multiple Panamanian news sources. These reports have been described as deliberate assaults motivated by distinct economic agendas, aiming to tarnish Castillo’s professional standing and personal character.
Carlos Carillo, an attorney on Castillo’s legal team, remarked: “These claims are unfounded and seek to hinder the professional journey of a young lawyer, along with her associate, to benefit hidden economic agendas.”
The Protection of Odila Castillo
The defense underscored that this is not the initial case of media harassment faced by Castillo. Back in 2021, a Panamanian news organization mistakenly reported a supposed arrest of the attorney related to an investigation, a statement that was later refuted, clarifying that it had no connection to the current issues.
In the press conference, the defense declared that both the recent accusations and those from 2021 have been founded on partial truths, designed to tarnish her professional career.
Additionally, they argued that the information disseminated about Odila Castillo in the media breaches confidentiality principles. They explained that a portion of the investigation arose from a family issue that had already been resolved, while another facet pertains to immigration activities and tax filings, along with other information acquired through illegal means.
Unauthorized Surveillance of Odila Castillo
The defense also asserted that Castillo has been subjected to GPS tracking, which constitutes a form of unlawful surveillance.
Carrillo concluded by stating: “The fundamental rights of our client have been violated, as enshrined in our Constitution and the law. All necessary legal actions will be initiated to ascertain liability for the damages incurred and those that are intended to be inflicted.”
