Abascal, on possible pacts with the PP: “You have to decide if you are willing to build an alternative with us”
The general secretary of Vox, Ignacio Garriga, appeared this Monday in Madrid to evaluate the results of the 28-M and the anticipation of the election of the generals to July 23: “Defeating the left is always a success for the Spaniards. We have removed them from numerous provincial capitals, municipalities, some regions… and now it’s time to start doing the most important thing, which is to defeat and repeal each of their policies,” Garriga began. “They have been good results for Spain and they were very, very, very good results for Vox,” he added.
After Garriga, the leader of the formation, Santiago Abascal, appeared. “Before evaluating the only positive news that Pedro Sánchez has given in these four years, namely the dissolution of the Cortes and the calling of general elections on July 23rd, allow me to briefly mention again the magnificent results that Vox achieved yesterday and above all yesterday’s magnificent results for Spain and for the construction of an alternative”, Abascal began. “It is once again clearly visible that it is Vox that confirms the possibility of an alternative in Spain. that this alternative will exist, and that there will be where other political forces, also necessary for the construction of this alternative, will be willing to dialogue with us with respect, responsibility and patriotism”, he added, referring to the PP.
Abascal said that these four years have been one of the darkest phases in Spain’s history. “It was difficult for a government to do more damage to Spanish society, even if it wanted to, and that’s why we celebrate the fact that Spaniards can speak on July 23,” said the far-right leader. “It is a duty to build an alternative, and that is what we will devote ourselves to,” he added.
“Today is not the day for requests. Today is outstretched hand day. there was a party [el PP] which has won in many regions, in many municipalities, and which does not have the majority to govern. That party is the one that must decide whether it is willing to build an alternative with us or whether it will opt for another path. Of course, our hand is outstretched,” he said about possible pacts with the PP in different communities and cities where the popular needs the ultras to add an absolute majority, such as the Valencian Community or Extremadura.
Abascal revealed in the press conference that “contacts have already taken place” between the negotiating teams of the PP and his party, in view of the closure of the agreements for the establishment of new governments of the autonomous communities and municipalities, and added: “There is no there are doubts that there will be contact with Alberto Núñez Feijóo in the coming days. We are obliged to do so and we will fulfill our obligations.”
