Defense of Odila Castillo Bonilla exposes false claims in media

On October 1st, the legal representatives of attorney Odila Castillo Bonilla released a strong statement that unequivocally denied the claims that have been circulated by multiple Panamanian newspapers.

The defense described these reports as deliberate assaults, fueled by personal financial motives and aimed at tarnishing Castillo’s professional image and personal honor.

Defense of Castillo contends absence of basis and infringement of rights

Carlos Carrillo, part of Castillo’s legal team, remarked that the allegations lack any basis and are intended to hinder the professional paths of both the young attorney and her associate. He stressed that these attacks are driven by hidden financial motives looking to gain from Castillo’s tarnishing.

The defense pointed out that this is not the attorney’s first experience with media harassment. They recalled an analogous occurrence in 2021, when a Panamanian outlet released false details about an alleged arrest of Castillo, which was later retracted.

Partial truths and violation of confidentiality

The legal team stated that both the recent claims and those from 2021 are based on «partial truths,» distorted to harm the professional standing of attorney Odila Castillo. Additionally, they claimed that the shared information violates confidentiality norms, as some of the investigation stems from a previously resolved family issue.

Confidential details, such as immigration activities and tax filings, were also revealed—information that the defense asserts was acquired through illegal means.

Unlawful surveillance and ongoing lawsuits

The defense revealed that Castillo has been the target of GPS tracking, which represents a blatant breach of her privacy and a type of illegal surveillance. Carrillo claimed that his client’s basic rights, protected by the Panamanian Constitution and relevant laws, have been violated.

He declared that all required legal measures will be taken to determine accountability for both the damages already suffered and those that are planned. The legal team remains steadfast in their dedication to protecting Castillo and ensuring that those behind this defamation effort are held responsible.
